Cost every dish, price it for profit, and keep on top of allergens

Mizen does the sums a spreadsheet makes you do by hand, and keeps them right when your prices change.

Scan an invoice, update your prices

Take a photo of a supplier invoice, or upload the PDF. Mizen reads each line, matches it to your ingredients and shows what’s gone up or down since last time.

  • Choose Update price, Add new or Skip for each line
  • Nothing changes until you apply it, so you can catch anything the scan misread
  • Photos or PDFs, up to 10 MB each

Price every dish for the profit you want

Set a target gross profit for each dish and Mizen suggests the selling price before VAT, and the menu price with 20% VAT added.

  • See the gross profit on every plate
  • Units convert for you: buy flour by the kilo and use it by the gram
  • Anything that can’t be converted is marked Not costed, never guessed
The costing for steak and ale pie with mash and gravy. Its components cost £2.68 in total. With a 70% target gross profit, the suggested price is £8.92 before VAT and £10.70 with 20% VAT.

Allergens, worked out from the ingredients up

Record the 14 allergens on each ingredient once. Mizen carries them through every batch recipe, recipe and menu item that uses it, and the Allergen Report shows your whole menu in one table.

  • Filter by dish, category or allergen
  • Dishes made only from vegan ingredients are labelled Vegan, on screen and on the chart
  • Print an A4 allergen chart for the kitchen or your allergen folder, or save it as a PDF
  • Export a CSV that opens in Excel

Mizen can only be as accurate as the details you enter, so always double-check it against your recipes and product labels.

Recipe sheets your team can follow

Print any recipe as a clear A4 sheet with its ingredients, method and allergens, ready for the kitchen wall or a folder.

  • Show the costs, or leave them off
  • Batch recipes it uses can print on the pages after, so the gravy follows the pie
  • Print it, or save it as a PDF to share

On the phone in your pocket

Mizen runs in your web browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with nothing to install. Log in on any of them and your recipes are there.

  • Recipes grouped into Starters, Mains, Desserts or your own categories
  • Search by name or category
  • Check a cost or an allergen without leaving the kitchen
